Another Year, Another Number

As the pages of history turn from page 2009 to 2010, it was like any other Thursday becoming another Friday at the passing of a second...imperceptible. It is now 2010 and it is just another number on a man-made scale to make sense of linear time. Just like the rhetorical question, "what's in a name?" one could just as well ask, what's in a number anyway? Numerologists will scream blasphemy but today, 1st January 2010 for all intents and purposes, is just another Friday.

Yesterday, the deluge of smses had many of us bidding good riddance to the number 2009 and welcoming another number as if it is divine providence ushering in new hope and bounty. Alas, today is just another day for each of us to optimize the usage of time instead of mourn or lament its passing.

Last night we were at Pavillion, Bukit Bintang to watch the revelry as thousands gathered to countdown the seconds towards the number 2010. As the time approached, the crowd waited for the joint-countdown that did not happen (the organizers at Pavillion blundered I suppose) and for those there, 2009 passed into 2010 only on each individual's timepiece. How apt.
